Bitcoin cash (BCH) is officially supported in the KeepKey client. The latest production client version is v4.5.12.
KeepKey users who already have the KeepKey client installed will automatically get the update. Please make sure you are in the latest version of firmware (v4.0.0) and client to access these new features.
Additional features in this update include:
- Prevent failed calls by overriding etherscan API calls
- Accommodate for ShapeShift transactions that have 0 fees
- Some enhanced buttons to have icons and hover help
- Faster LTC confirmation rates due to more desirable mining fees
Bitcoin cash forked from bitcoin (BTC) in August 2017. Any person holding BTC at the time of the fork was awarded an equivalent amount of BCH. BCH forked with the intention to boost the amount of processed transactions by increasing the size of blocks from 1MB to 8MB.
At this time we are asking customers who are using the KeepKey beta client for the purpose of accessing BCH to delete that client from their apps and use the KeepKey production client v4.5.12 instead. You can download the production client here:
Our recent beta client (4.5.11) for BCH was tested thoroughly and is now very mature. We will be moving onto a new beta client soon that is not as mature as our latest version. For this reason, we strongly recommend all current beta users move to our production client. More advanced users who are willing to work with our support team at a higher level to improve the quality of the client are welcome to use the new beta client when it is available.
Claiming Your Bitcoin Cash
If you were holding BTC at the time of the fork on August 1, 2017 and have not yet claimed your BCH, please follow the directions below.
When you open the bitcoin account in the KeepKey Wallet software, you will see that bitcoin cash listed at the bottom. The “paper airplane” icon next to your bitcoin cash balance allows you to send it just like any other crypto asset supported by KeepKey.
Note: Do not intentionally send bitcoin cash to a bitcoin account. From a bitcoin cash sub-account, the only things you can do are send, exchange with ShapeShift and hodl.
If you want to do more with your bitcoin cash, create a bitcoin cash account. Here is how:
- Click the ‘Add Account’ button in the bottom right corner of the KeepKey client
- Select “BitcoinCash” from the drop-down
- Select “Add Account”
After you click the ‘Add Account’ button on the wallet listing, select “BitcoinCash” from the drop-down. The bitcoin cash account will be added to your account list.
When you create the account you can send, receive, exchange with ShapeShift, and view the transaction listing.
